Are Afghan Defections To The Taliban A Growing Trend?
Police commander and at least a dozen junior officers switch sides to Taliban in what may be largest Afghan police defection
An Afghanistan police commander and a number of junior officers have defected to the Taliban and handed over their weapons and equipment, reported the BBC today, in an incident that may be the largest Afghan police side-switch in recent memory.
There are conflicting reports about their numbers: Reuters claims that 12 junior officers defected along with the senior commander, while the BBC reports that 13 junior officers left the force.

My Comment: An ominous indication of what may happen when ISAF forces leave. This also reminds me of what happened when the Soviet military left Afghanistan in 1988. The Afghan military was huge ..... but defections over 2 years degraded them to the point that when the early version of the Taliban began their offensive, these Soviet trained and equipped military forces disintegrated very quickly.
