Syria: West 'Could Deploy 300,000 Troops Following Regime Collapse' -- The Telegraph
Western governments could be called on to deploy up to 300,000 troops to intervene in Syria following the collapse of the current regime, an influential defence think tank has said.

It warns that after Mr Assad's likely departure the "military options will be seen in a different light".

My Comment: Even if the Assad regime collapses, and Syria completely disintegrates, there is no political will, resources, or public support in the West to get involved in the Syrian quagmire. The only action that would change this sentiment is if Syria's WMDs fall into the hands of terror groups, and they start to use them against targets in the Middle east .... and the West. In that case .... all hell is going to break loose.

This would be as effective as the promises to support the Libyan incursion. The key word in this story is "called" -- there's no way that you'll see 300K troops. NATO has lived under the US umbrella for decades & just foisted off their security responsibilities to us, particularly after the collapse of the Soviet empire. Russia & China have the troops but don't have the logistical wherewithal to support them. Obama will want to just talk it to death.
