Female helicopter pilot stood down from RAF Tornado rescue operation as senior officers realise one of missing airmen was her husband.

A female helicopter pilot had to stand down from the rescue operation launched after two Tornado GR4 jets crashed last week when senior officers realised her husband was one of the missing airmen.

Flt Lt Fiona Bailey was on a training exercise when news emerged of the midair collision over the Moray Firth on Tuesday.

Her husband Sq Ldr Samuel Bailey, 36, was one of three air crew from RAF Lossiemouth who died in the accident.

My Comment: I cannot even imagine what was going through her mind when she was told that her husband was one of the missing.
