At Least 18 Dead In Pakistan Anti-American Rioting Friday -- L.A. Times
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Fiery anti-U.S. demonstrations swept through Pakistan's capital and several other cities Friday as thousands of people furious over an anti-Islam film privately produced in America clashed with police in one of the worst waves of violence to hit the nation in recent years. In Islamabad, protesters turned the city’s tree-lined boulevards and avenues into a battle zone as they toppled freight containers set up as barriers and pelted riot police with rocks while unsuccessfully trying to storm a heavily guarded enclave housing the U.S. embassy and other diplomatic missions. Across the country, at least 18 people were killed in the violence and more than 100 more injured.

I fear that the writer's sane words will fall upon the deaf ears of self proclaimed righteous leaders who are fanning the emotions of the masses. The air of intolerance has become a whirlwind which is stalking the precious lives of the believers. Intelligentsia should step forward and give direction to the grieving populace of Pakistan. Intellectual elite has failed innumerable times in recent history of the sub continent to guide masses away from religious bigotry. It is the time again that the moderates do not get cowered down by fear of reprisals. The academia, and students have moral calling to educate the fragile masses and soothe their pain with rational appraisal of the situation. Senseless violence and angry public display of raw hatred on the streets are the very reactions which these video makers intended from the very beginning. They anticipated the hurt and generated it with relish by creating such heinous act of stupidity. They had fully assessed the predictable reaction from the lands of believers. Ever reactionary display of civic disorder and public violence adds to their success in diminishing the image of fragile believer.
I have not met a single person in my small town in state of Virginia, USA who approves of this mischievous video clip. Some of my acquaintances even told me that they simply turned off the display on U tube after watching it for few minutes. I do understand the remorse and pain of the muslim believers who had been hurt by such blatant denigration of their focus of belief. Reflection rather than reaction should be the call of the day. Islam emphasizes Civic order and Self discipline. Pakistan has suffered enough, it is time to put it back on path of stability and peace.
