Syria's Rebels Are Now Targeting Military Bases



Syrian Rebels Claim Air Base -- Sydney Morning Herald

OPPOSITION fighters in Syria claim to have captured an air defence base, taking at least 16 soldiers captive and seizing weapons and ammunition in what appeared to be part of a broader rebel offensive against Syrian military installations across the country.

Rebel fighters in the eastern province of Deir el-Zour also attacked a military air base, according to activist groups, the third attack on an air force site in the past few days. Last week, rebel commanders claimed to have destroyed several helicopters during attacks on two separate military airports in Idlib province.

My Comment: The rebels are also targeting the senior Syrian military leadership. These attacks are clearly indicating a better Syrian rebel military structure and a better ability to organize and coordinate attacks.

I concur that they are becoming more organized if they can launch offensives on military bases and covertly target regime officials at the same time.

I've been thinking about their situation and wondering if they had tried assaulting bases. Primarily airstrips to bring down the airforce that causes them so many casualties.
