Where The Candidates Stand On Defense -- Michael O’Hanlon, CNN
With the political conventions, Veterans of Foreign Wars speeches, party and campaign platforms all now on the record, what can we conclude about the key question of the differences in defense strategy and spending between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney?
This is only one aspect of the foreign policy debate between the two candidates. But it is still hugely important – and about far more than a technical discussion over which fighter jet to buy or how many new ships to build. Indeed, the issue reveals a great deal about the worldviews of the candidates, and also links directly to their fiscal and therefore economic strategies – the top issue in this year's race and itself a matter of national security.

My Comment: I am slightly skeptical of Romney's commitments on defense. The U.S. budget deficit will need to be slashed .... and defense will be hit hard. As for President Obama's position .... I do not doubt his word when it comes to slashing defense.

YOUR ARGUMENT SEEMS TO REST--FORGIVE ME IF I AM WRONG--ON THE NOTION THAT THERE OUGHT NOT BE ANY CUTS IN NATIONAL DEFENSE NO MATTER WHAT, EVEN IF PENTAGON OBJECTS TO SOME ITEMS IT DOES NOT WANT! AND THEN JUDGEMENTS ARE MADE ABOUT WHICH CANDIDATE WANT OR IS WILLING TO MAKE CUTS TO FIX OUR DISGRACEFUL BUDGETING PROBLEMS
Thank you fred for your comment.
I guess I did not make myself clear .... I have accepted the fact that defense budget cuts are coming, and there is nothing that anyone can do to change that. The best that can be done is to have a debate on what are our national security priorities, and then decide how to best to fund it.
Sighhh .... I saw all of this in the Soviet Union when it broke up .... they had huge deficits that were incredibly destructive .... and in the end caused just as much destruction as a war .... the buildings were still standing, people were walking around, but their financial/debt crisis produced millions of casualties when they realized that their "wealth" had been devastated by government stupidity and corruption.
All that I am saying in these posts is issuing a warning .... the West is repeating history .... and we better change.
When he was doing good in the polls.. the Economy tanked... when he took office, the stock market CRashed, when he took residence, the GAS PRICES WENT UP, AND EVER SINCE THEN... GOOOO, LETS NOT DRAG IT OUT.. ITS RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF US
