Two Planes To Evacuate Russians From Syria -- RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, January 21 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian Emergencies Ministry will send two planes to evacuate Russians from Syria on Tuesday, an emergencies ministry spokeswoman Irina Rossius said on Monday.

“On instructions from the Russian government, the emergencies ministry will send two planes – an Il-76 and a Yak-42 – to [the Lebanese capital of] Beirut so that Russians could leave Syria,” she said.

The two planes can carry about 100 people in total.

My Comment: I would not call this a vote of confidence by Russia on the Assad government..

The Russians did the same thing with Egypt and Syria just before the Yom Kippur War.
