Afghanistan Says Pakistan Ties Are Fraying -- Wall Street Journal

KABUL—Afghanistan's relations with Pakistan are growing increasingly strained, Afghan officials say, even as President Hamid Karzai has patched up, for now, his fraying ties with the U.S.

At the core of the disagreement is what role Pakistan, Afghanistan's larger neighbor and a traditional supporter of the Taliban, will play in the region's post-American order once most U.S.-led coalition forces withdraw next year.

A trilateral summit of Pakistani, Afghan and British leaders, held in England last month to discuss regional cooperation, was billed as a success after it ended with an optimistic pledge to seek a peace settlement with the Taliban within six months.
