Joint Chiefs Head Sees Danger From Poor Communication With Iran -- Global Security Newswire

WASHINGTON -- The top U.S. military officer on Monday said he shares his predecessor's fear that a low-level clash with Iranian vessels or aircraft could unintentionally give way to a wider armed conflict.

To date, routine maritime practices and "aircraft-to-aircraft communications" have helped to prevent "miscalculation," according to Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey.

Tense encounters between Iranian and U.S. military aircraft have occurred as recently as last week, and Iranian fighter jets fired on and missed a U.S. unmanned aircraft during a run-in last November.

My Comment: I covered this story last year. It would not take much for a U.S.-Iran shooting war to start, and with no means to communicate with each other .... a shooting war that can (and probably will) quickly escalate.
