Israeli Threat To Intervene In Syria -- The Telegraph

Israel has threatened to intervene in the Syrian conflict, saying it could act to prevent chemical and other weapons getting into the hands of militant Islamist groups.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, said more heavily armed militants on Israel's border could redefine its security position.

"We're concerned that weapons which are ground-breaking, which could change the balance of power in the Middle East, could fall into the hands of these terrorists and we always reserve the right to act to prevent that from happening," he said in an interview with the BBC on Thursday.

"We don't seek military confrontation, but we are prepared to defend ourselves if the need arises and I think people know that what I say is both measured and serious."
