New Details Emerge in Boston Marathon Bombings -- Wall Street Journal

Bombs Built Into Pressure Cookers; Second Victim Identified

BOSTON—The Federal Bureau of Investigation said Tuesday that crude pressure-cooker bombs may have been used in the Boston Marathon bombings that killed three and wounded more than 175, with authorities examining what one official called the "most complex crime scene" the city had ever dealt with.

The bombs were built by packing the cookers with a black-powder explosive and made more lethal by using nails and pellets, said Rep. Michael McCaul (R., Texas), the chairman of the House homeland security committee.

Mr. McCaul said in an interview that investigators who briefed lawmakers described analyzing the remnants of the bomb to determine how it was made.
