Syria Chemical Weapons: US Accuses Bashar al-Assad's Regime Of Using Sarin -- The Telegraph

President Barack Obama has come under pressure to intervene in Syria after the White House and British officials claimed to have evidence that the Assad regime had used the nerve agent sarin as a weapon in the country’s conflict.

In a letter to senators, the White House said that scientists had tested “physiological samples” and believed sarin had been used. The Foreign Office confirmed reports that soil taken from inside Syria showed traces of the substance.

Mr Obama has repeatedly warned since last August that use of chemical weapons was a “red line” that would trigger international intervention.

Michael Rodriguez, a White House official, said in the letter: “Our intelligence community does assess with varying degrees of confidence that the Syrian regime has used chemical weapons on a small scale in Syria, specifically the chemical agent sarin.”
