Japan's 'Brave' World War Two Soldiers Needed Sex Slaves, Says Osaka Mayor -- The Australian

A "DISAPPOINTED" South Korea said Japan needed to correct its perception of history and women's rights after Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto claimed Korean sex slaves were necessary to reward "brave" Japanese troops during World War II.

The high-profile right-winger, who some have tipped as a future Japanese prime minister, sparked a fresh conflict with Korea when he said so-called "comfort women" were "needed to provide rest to a group of brave soldiers who were exalted in the line of fire". The controversy erupted as Mr Hashimoto was involved in a separate row over urging the commander of a US military base in Okinawa to tell his soldiers to make greater use of local prostitutes to cut the incidence of rape involving US servicemen on the island.
