EU Demands Answers Over Claims The US Spied On European Diplomats -- The Telegraph

Furious European leaders warned that relations with America could be severely damaged, after it was alleged that the US had been spying on EU diplomats.

A newly-leaked National Security Agency (NSA) document from September 2010 stated that the EU's embassy in Washington was bugged and its computer network was monitored. European offices at the United Nations in New York are also said to have been placed under surveillance.

"The Americans were able to access discussions in EU rooms as well as emails and internal documents on computers," according to a report in the German news magazine Der Spiegel.

A string of senior European politicians on Sunday lined up to condemn the US for using Cold War-style tactics against its allies, potentially threatening ongoing negotiations over a US-EU free trade pact.

My Comment: I doubt that anyone is surprised that the US is conducting spying programs on European countries .... but what I think that makes these recent revelations disturbing to everyone is that no one was aware of the scope and reach of these surveillance and spying programs.
