World News Briefs -- July 26, 2013 (Evening Edition)

Egyptians Rally in Huge Numbers -- Voice of America

Clashes have broken out in Cairo and Alexandria as tens of thousands of Egyptians are taking to the streets in massive shows of support for the military and the Muslim Brotherhood.

In Alexandria, supporters and opponents of ousted President Mohamed Morsi pelted each other with rocks. Video also shows pro-Morsi and pro-Muslim Brotherhood supporters firing at Morsi opponents with bird shot. Medical sources and state-run media said two people had been killed, with many more injured.

In Cairo, Morsi supporters clashed with some of the thousands of protesters gathered in Cairo's Tahrir Square, responding to the call of Army chief Abdel Fattah el-Sissi for "all honorable Egyptians" to take to the streets to give him a mandate to fight "violence and terrorism."
