U.S. Would Only Act On Syria With International Community: Hagel -- Reuters

(Reuters) - The United States would only take action on Syria in concert with the international community and with legal justification in response to the alleged chemical weapons attacks in Damascus, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said on Monday.

Hagel, speaking on a trip to Indonesia, declined to discuss U.S. military options under consideration by the White House, or to say whether he thought a military response was likely.

"The United States is looking at all options regarding the situation in Syria. We're working with our allies and the international community," Hagel told a news conference in Jakarta.

My Comment: Both China and Russia have made it very clear that they are against any U.S. military intervention in Syria .... hence .... from my vantage point this will all but guarantee that there will be no consensus and/or unified international response to the crisis in Syria. As to the content of U.S. Defense Secretary Hagel's remarks .... I cannot help but feel that the White House knows that there is no international consensus .... and they will use this lack of a unified approach as an excuse on why they are delaying a military intervention in Syria. But to save face, it would not surprise if the U.S. will still lob a few cruise missiles on selective but inconsequential Syrian military sites in the next week or two .... just to make a public display that the U.S. is still being tough on Syria.

I believe nothing will happen for now, but I dont think they would launch some cruise missiles because it would be a huge risk as it could trigger different responses, so unless they are willing to fully engage in this conflict I dont see anything happenning.
