Obama Speaks With French President On Spy Claims -- USA Today
President Obama called French counterpart Francois Hollande on Monday in the wake of allegations that the National Security Agency has conducted intelligence gathering in France.
The two leaders "discussed recent disclosures in the press -- some of which have distorted our activities and some of which raise legitimate questions for our friends and allies about how these capabilities are employed," said a White House statement on the phone call.
A French newspaper said the NSA gathered more than 70 million French phone records during a recent 30-day period.
