Rebel Massacre Signals Turning Point in Syrian War -- Janine di Giovanni, Newsweek
They attacked before the sun rose, toward the end of Ramadan. In the August heat, soldiers went from house to house in the small Alawite villages, near the al-Akrad mountains in the Latakia region. The inhabitants in this Western Syria governorate were farmers, simple people. Until this morning, they had been able to avoid the brutal fighting that has ravaged Syria for the past three years, spared the atrocities committed against civilians by the government soldiers of President Bashar al-Assad, or his notorious paramilitaries, the Shabiha.
But the massacre of these civilians was shocking for another reason: they were committed by jihadist groups fighting on the rebel side. In the Alawite villages, they burned what possessions they found, including homes. They gunned down the elderly, the disabled. They executed some at close range, but also shot those who fled in terror. Young and old, men and women, babies and grandparents.

My Comment: Massacres and war crimes are now happening everyday in Syria .... but it is true ... the rise of Jihadist elements in the Syrian rebel movement has sapped support for the rebel movement from the international community and from many within Syria itself.
