Russia Commemorates WWII Soldiers On Red Square



Over 6,000 Take Part In Memorial Parade On Red Square -- Russia Beyond The Headlines

More than 6,000 people paraded through Moscow's Red Square on Thursday in marking the 72nd anniversary of a historic Red Army parade whose participants went directly to the front to fight German forces that were approaching the then Soviet capital.

"More than 6,000 people are taking part in the parade today. Among them are soldiers and officers from the Moscow Garrison, servicemen of the Presidential Regiment and the Guard of Honor, members of patriotic clubs and search parties, and cadets," Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in a speech at the opening of the parade.
