North Korean Execution Raises Unease in China -- New York Times

North Korea’s announcement that Jang Song-thaek, the uncle of the country’s leader, Kim Jong-un, had been executed for treason triggered expressions of dismay in China, the North’s only major ally.

Chinese bloggers marveled at Mr. Jang’s abrupt downfall and violent end, which was detailed in a lengthy report by the state-run Korean Central News Agency. Some online commentators drew parallels between his purge and more turbulent periods of recent Chinese history. Several pointed out Mr. Jang’s ties with China and wondered what his execution might portend for relations with North Korea.
