Does U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry Know That North Korea Has Nuclear Weapons?

Did You Know North Korea Has Nuclear Weapons? Then You’re One Up On John Kerry -- Daily Caller

Well, he probably knows they do now. But he didn’t when ABC’s Martha Raddatz interviewed him for This Week. Which happened, confusingly enough, last week.

“Um, this is the nature of this ruthless, horrendous dictatorship and of his insecurities. And — and I think we — we need to factor that into the urgency of getting China, Russia, Japan, South Korea, all of us, uh, to stay on the same page and to put as much effort into the denuclearization as possible. To have a nuclear weapon, potentially, in the hands of somebody like Kim Jong In — Jun — just becomes even more unacceptable.”

Either Raddatz doesn’t know North Korea has nukes already — not “potentially,” but right freaking now — or she just didn’t want to embarrass Kerry. Given the job she did as moderator during the Biden/Ryan debate, either possibility is equally likely.

My Comment: A part of me tells me that he was tired and distracted ....and he misquoted. Another part tells me ... and this is what scares me .... is that he is not on top of this file and at that moment in time he actually believed/believes that North Korea does not have nuclear weapons. Not surprising .... the Asian press is playing this up but the U.S. mass media is giving a pass on this embarrassing mistake.

I am no fan of John Kerry, but I think strictly speaking he is correct.

While it is known that NK does posses nuclear capability and can even detonate a nuclear bomb, it is quite a different matter to weaponise a warhead or to design a nuclear payload that can be used as a weapon.

So far it seems their nuclear tests were rather crude... and them becoming a practical threat to the neighborhood is still, strictly speaking, only 'potentially'.
