An NSA Coworker Remembers The Real Edward Snowden: 'A Genius Among Geniuses' -- Andy Greenberg, Forbes

Perhaps Edward Snowden’s hoodie should have raised suspicions.

The black sweatshirt sold by the civil libertarian Electronic Frontier Foundation featured a parody of the National Security Agency’s logo, with the traditional key in an eagle’s claws replaced by a collection of AT&T cables, and eavesdropping headphones covering the menacing bird’s ears. Snowden wore it regularly to stay warm in the air-conditioned underground NSA Hawaii Kunia facility known as “the tunnel.”

His coworkers assumed it was meant ironically. And a geek as gifted as Snowden could get away with a few irregularities.

Update: Edward Snowden's former colleague calls him 'a genius among geniuses' and was given unprecedented access to the classified materials that he later leaked -- Daily Mail

My Comment: This story certainly contradicts what many in the U.S. government, NSA, and President Obama have been saying about him for the past 6 months .... that he is a 20 something hacker who is now a wanted fugitive. As to what is my take .... there is probably more to this story than what they are telling us. For him to be given the access that he had .... he must have been someone who instilled confidence and trust from his colleagues and from his superiors. And the fact that he was able to pull it off in the spectacular fashion that he did tells me that he definitely had the smarts and know-how to do it .... as well as the "balls" to follow through. And while I do not know if he is a "genius among geniuses" .... I do know that so far he has proven himself to not only be smart but also truthful when it comes to the NSA .... a claim that the US government and the NSA cannot (for the moment) make.

Update: The NSA is losing the battle for public opinion.
