Japan Watching N. Korea Military's Moves After Jang's Purge -- Global Post/Kyodo News

Japan is watching moves within North Korea's military after the downfall of Jang Song Thaek, widely seen until recently as the country's second most powerful figure after his nephew Kim Jong Un, government officials said Monday.

"We are monitoring the situation in North Korea to see if there are any moves within the military," Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera told reporters.

The purge of Jang has also increased concern that Pyongyang may move to speed up its development of nuclear weapons and missiles.
