My Comment: Failure to lay claim to this island will make the Chinese border case in the South China Sea moot at best .... an option that Beijing regards as unacceptable. As for the Chinese report that they will use force .... I am treating it as a trial balloon by the Chinese to gauge international reaction. But I also do firmly believe that when push to comes to shove the Chinese will use their military assets in the region to assert their claims ... including the military occupation of this small island that is in the middle of the South China Sea.
