A deadly winter storm is threatening 100million people with up to 18 inches of snow and bitter cold temperatures tonight as it blasts across the Midwest and bares down on the East Coast.

The evening commute on the first workday of 2014 could become treacherous - or even impossible - as officials urge drivers from Maine to Washington, D.C., to stay off the road after 7pm.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced this afternoon that three major New York expressways would be closed from midnight until 5am Friday - the Long Island Expressway, Interstate 87 South and Interstate 84.

My Comment: I live in Montreal, Canada .... but I am presently in my chalet in the Laurentians. The temperature hit -36C this morning .... and tonight it will be the same (if not colder). But fear not .... the fireplace is working, the heat is on, I am drinking some good XO cognac, and in between I am reading and blogging. This is actually a pretty good life .... until you have to go outside. :(
