Anger In Britain And The U.S. At Afghan Plan To Release 88 Taliban Prisoners Responsible For Scores Of Attacks That Killed And Maimed Troops And Police -- Daily Mail

* U.S. only recently transferred the prison at Bagram to Afghan control
* Had become serious source of tension with the government in Afghanistan
* 30 percent had participated in direct attacks that killed or wounded 60 U.S. and coalition troops

The announcement that Afghanistan is planning to release 88 prisoners from jail has been met with fury by officials in the US.

The US wants Afghanistan to halt the release because they pose a serious threat to security, U.S. officials said on Wednesday, adding to strains between the two sides.

About 40 percent of the prisoners were directly responsible for wounding or killing 57 Afghan civilians and security forces, and 30 percent had participated in direct attacks that killed or wounded 60 U.S. and coalition troops, a U.S. official said.

My Comment: Iraq did the same type of release when U.S. forces left the country in 2011 .... and they have regretted it ever since. I guess Afghanistan wants to repeat history.
