Sanctions Have Been Imposed On Ukraine

Ukraine Sanctions Imposed Amid Kiev Clashes -- BBC

European Union foreign ministers have agreed to impose sanctions on Ukrainian officials "responsible for violence and excessive force".

In a statement, they said targeted sanctions including asset freezes and visa bans would be introduced "as a matter of urgency".

At least 21 anti-government protesters died in clashes in Kiev on Thursday.

Officials said that one policeman had also died and that 67 police had been captured by protesters.

"No circumstances can justify the repression we are currently witnessing," the statement from EU foreign ministers said.

EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said the "prime responsibility" to get talks between the two sides under way lay with President Viktor Yanukovych.

Thank you James for your thoughts.

Unfortunately ... I cannot answer your question. My cousin's daughter (she is 24) deleted her Facebook account a few days ago and is not answering her emails. She is the beautiful radical in the family .... and we are all worried about her because we just know that she is at the barricades.

The building where my cousin has her office (it is two blocks from the city center) sustained fire damage. The family owns this building and ... yes .... there is no insurance.

My aunt .... who lives in another city .... told my mother that riots have been ongoing since Saturday .... and the police forces have essentially broken down.

I am just grateful that my father is not alive to see this. He went to war against the Nazis and their Ukrainian collaborators to prevent this sort of civil war conflict from happening .... but it is happening today.

" we just know that she is at the barricades." I hope she learns how to "get small" at the right time. I'm following this closely, good luck to yours. I've got a bad feeling about 3am Monday.
