Britain Should Station 3,000 Troops In Germany To Avoid Appearing Weak In The Eyes Of 'Resurgent Russia', Says Former Army Chief -- Daily Mail

* Lord Dannatt says troops would underpin diplomacy with Russia
* He said the West must not be 'weak in resolve and muscle'
* Retaining 3,000 troops in Germany would show Britain is 'serious'

Britain must send a strong signal to Russia's aggression in the Ukraine by reversing the cost-cutting decision to remove all troops from Germany.

The number of British servicemen will drop from 102,000 to 82,000 by 2020, although bolstered by an extra 11,000 reservists, and all troops based in Germany, currently around 20,000, will leave by 2019.

But Lord Dannatt, who was head of the Army from 2006 to 2008, has proposed that 3,000 British soldiers should stay on in Germany to send a clear message to a 'resurgent Russia'.

My Comment: Yup .... stationing 3,000 British troops in Germany will show Russia that Britain is serious and not weak. Cough ... cough .... Britain is weak and Russia knows it.

Yes Russia is just so strong , as you love to try and mention every time you comment on these stories. Uncle Vlad has really stirred up that pride. Facts are though , this war will not take place inGermany or France or even poland. You are having to roll out tanks just to step in your own backyard. That is the definition of weakness. Uncle Vlad is one wrong move from putting fear back in the american public, after that its back to the breadlines for the homeland.

I used to love this blog, but your smug little swipes every time you comment on this issue has proven unfortunate

I am a person who loves British history. From William the Conqueror, the building up of Empire, the role of the monarchy, industrial revolution, constitutional government, the list is long and the topics are many.

But that is the past .... it is a choice that has been made by the British people and as one who respects democracy I have accepted it. I may not like it .... and I do not .... and yes .... I will always voice my displeasure on it.

As to Putin .... everyone who reads this blog regularly know that I do not like him. Never did. But I must also respect the fact that many Russians do like him .... and do support him .... especially on his policy of protecting Russian citizens in these border states.

As to the crisis in Ukraine .... it is simple to blame Russia but it is not Russia's fault .... this crisis has been caused by the Ukrainians themselves .... and the cost of their 'revolution' is now hitting home to many of them. I am obviously not optimistic on the outcome of what is happening there .... and yes .... rolling in the tanks will be the worst outcome for everyone .... but especially for the Ukrainians.

3,000 troops in Germany will make Britain look strong and not weak? Seriously? Did I read that right?

Well, at least he's the 'former' chief, but it just makes one wonder what sort of intelligence is behind these top defense positions.
