A series of terror attacks have put the north of Israel on the edge of escalation.
Just a week ago, the Gaza Strip topped the list of Israel’s immediate security worries. Dozens of rockets had been fired at the Negev; the government was threatening to reoccupy the Strip; and communities on the Gaza border were preparing for the possibility that their Purim celebrations would take place in the shadow of a barrage of Qassam rockets. But the tension in the south died down almost as quickly as it arose. Egyptian mediation produced a return to the terms of the cease-fire – temporarily, of course, until the next flare-up.
