President Obama, in an interview in Rome with "CBS Evening News" anchor and managing editor Scott Pelley, said Russia must take steps now to reduce tensions over Ukraine.

"It's well known and well acknowledged that you've seen a range of troops massing along that border under the guise of military exercises. But these are not what Russia would normally be doing. Wil putin obey? Or does he want a war?

The Russian government is not going to 'obey' the U.S. President. And I do not see the U.S. rushing to defend Ukraine in the event that the situation in that country collapses. There will be no war .... but there could be conflict within Ukraine that may result in a Russian intervention. And the reaction from the West .... sanctions and diplomatic isolation of Russia.
