Syria Has Set Up A Space Agency -- Washington Post
The Syrian news agency announced Tuesday that the cabinet approved a bill creating the Syrian Space Agency, "a public body of a scientific research nature." From our Beirut bureau chief:
Countries don't have to have the money and resources of the United States or Russia to mount a space program. India launched an unmanned orbiter to Mars in November for just $74 million, for example. Nigeria has a national space agency. So does Ukraine. And Syria didn't say what its space program is doing. But the announcement comes just days after the third anniversary of a conflict that has killed more than 140,000 and created 2.5 million refugees.

My Comment: 146,000 dead. Hundreds of thousands wounded. Millions displaced. This space agency makes no sense at all.

Ah Mr. WNU,
It makes very good sense. At the very least it provides a good cover for "ahem" politicians to steal public money. It also provides a fabulous reasons to test all kinds of nasty weapons and delivery systems beloved by peace loving countries far and wide. Then you have all the false front commercial companies to facilitate import/export of items that need let us say altered definitions. I would that many more countries will join in creating their very own agencies i the near future.
"146,000 dead" comes from a guy in Coventry, England -- the Coventry clothier -- and can't be authenticated.
I personally believe that the number is much higher ... just a gut feeling.
