How The Ukraine Crisis Could Escalate Into A Nuclear War

Four Ways The Ukraine Crisis Could Escalate To Use Of Nuclear Weapons -- Loren Thompson, Forbes

In 1983, the ABC television network broadcast a movie called The Day After about how a superpower nuclear exchange devastated the lives of typical Americans in two midwestern cities. The conflict began with a Russian troop buildup in Eastern Europe (which Moscow initially claimed to be a military exercise), and then gradually escalated to a point where both sides launched their nuclear missiles for fear of losing them in a preemptive attack. Coming as it did during a period of U.S.-Soviet tensions and controversy surrounding Reagan Administration nuclear policies, the broadcast attracted a huge audience of over 100 million viewers; it is still the highest rated made-for-television movie in U.S. history.

My Comment: I am skeptical that any of these four scenarios will come into play. If the Russian - Ukraine conflict escalates into a war .... everyone in Europe (and the U.S.) is going to run away .... and fast. There will be sanctions and a political deep freeze with Moscow as well as the positioning of more NATO forces in eastern Europe .... but considering what is at stake .... no one wants to get involved in a shooting war with Russian forces because in that event .... it is a guarantee that all hell is going to break loose in Europe and elsewhere. In short .... this is a red line that no one in Europe or in the U.S. will be willing to cross.

The problem here is that you are assuming that we have a competent set of folks at the top - President, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, and competent top-commanders in our military.

Also that our reputation is on of 'If we attack them, we will surely lose.'

Neither of these is the case and THAT is when the risk of war is at its greatest. Not due to a deliberate, but due to a miscalculation, a misstep, or sheer incompetence.

So...how much food and water do YOU have stockpiled, brother?

As you know Orion .... being Russian means that I am always expecting the worse .... one year of supplies (water comes from an artesian well) and I will be bunkered down in the Laurentians of Quebec, Canada.

As to the West getting involved in a Russian - Ukraine conflict .... I just do not see it. This will be treated as a civil war within the Slav community .... and if the U.S. and the Europeans have any common sense .... they will stay away from it.

But then again my nationality is Russian .... always expect the worse.

They've already ran their mouths a lot for them to walk away.

If Russia invades Ukraine and no one reacts besides with more sanctions (big woop), this could give China the green light to take the Senkaku islands. These situations are truly scary. Russia, North Korea, China, and Iran have potential to escalate matters and if countries sit with their tail in between their legs and create more useless "red lines", this world could enter a very dark place.

All those ww3 Obama anti-Christ videos on YouTube are being paralleled right before our eyes... I also don't think this is going to blow over.

Haha absolutely. The Obama administration is doing a spectacular job at destroying our relations with other countries (Germany is a prime example) and escalating situations that could lead to war. This will not blow over.
