Russia Can’t Support Ukrainian Economy Forever- Putin -- RT

Russia can’t continue to prop up Ukraine’s faltering economy, and this responsibility should fall on the US and EU, which have recognized the authorities in Kiev but not yet given one dollar to support the economy, President Putin has said.

“The situation is - to put it kindly, strange. It’s known our partners in Europe have recognized the legitimacy of the government in Kiev, yet have done nothing to support Ukraine – not even one dollar or one euro,” Putin said at a meeting with government officials at his residence outside of Moscow.

“The Russian Federation doesn’t recognize the legitimacy of the authorities in Kiev, but it keeps providing economic support and subsidizing the economy of Ukraine with hundreds of millions and billions of dollars. This situation can’t last indefinitely,” Putin said.

Update#1: Russia Continues Economic Aid to Ukraine Despite Illegitimate Govt. – Putin -- RIA Novosti

My Comment: Putin was echoing what IMF managing director Christine Lagarde said last week .... Russia Helped Ukraine, But Now Ukraine Needs More, IMF's Lagarde Says (Forbes). To my non-Russia readers .... Russian aid and monies going to unstable and/or ungrateful countries has been one of the biggest pet peeves among Russians for as long as I can remember. This is one of the reasons why I doubt that Russia will invade Ukraine .... Russia will get involved if and if  Ukraine implodes and there is mass bloodshed .... otherwise .... any invasion would not only result in the lost of lives and international-political capital, but it will also result in the expenditure of tens of billions of dollars (if not more) as well as economic and financial sanctions. The annexation of Crimea was a no brainer .... it has a small population with a viable economy (tourism), and the potential of an oil-gas boom in the Black Sea .... and more to the point .... the mass majority wanted to be a part of Russia. As to greater Ukraine .... it is a large country that is deeply divided and broke, and if the West is eager to get involved .... God bless them .... because it has been (and will be) one huge mess.

Update #2: I am not a fan of Putin but he does have a point on this one ....

"The Russian Federation doesn’t recognize the legitimacy of the authorities in Kiev, but it keeps providing economic support and subsidizing the economy of Ukraine" .....

.... “As you know, our partners in Europe recognize the legitimacy of the current Kiev authorities, but are doing nothing in order to support Ukraine; not a single dollar, not a single euro.”

Yup .... it is sad to say but .... Money talks. Bullshit walks.
