Exclusive: Kerry Warns Israel Could Become ‘An Apartheid State’ -- Josh Rogin, Daily Beast

The secretary of state said that if Israel doesn’t make peace soon, it could become ‘an apartheid state,’ like the old South Africa. Jewish leaders are fuming over the comparison.

If there’s no two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict soon, Israel risks becoming “an apartheid state,” Secretary of State John Kerry told a room of influential world leaders in a closed-door meeting Friday.

Senior American officials have rarely, if ever, used the term “apartheid” in reference to Israel, and President Obama has previously rejected the idea that the word should apply to the Jewish state. My Comment: Making comments like this will not help the peace process .... but it is also a sign that after almost a year of discussions John Kerry has given up the peace process and wants to walk away and focus his attention on other issues. This outcome was sadly predicted by this blog last year .... and also sadly .... this failure will now be used to galvanize Palestinian public sentiment in launching a third intifada .... as if an excuse is needed to escalate the violence in a region that has already seen more than it's share of violence in the past few decades.

"By claiming that Israel could become an "apartheid state," even in a closed-door session, Kerry has just handed a huge victory to the Israel haters. It proves that a lie, told often enough, convinces people who want to be convinced. "
