U.N. Cites Rising Human Rights Violations in Ukraine -- New York Times
GENEVA — Armed groups are increasingly undermining the rights and basic freedoms of people in eastern Ukraine, the United Nations said Friday, expressing concern at the rising number of killings, abductions, beatings and detentions of journalists, politicians and local activists.
“Primarily as a result of the actions of organized armed groups, the continuation of the rhetoric of hatred and propaganda fuels the escalation of the crisis in Ukraine, with a potential of spiraling out of control,” the United Nations said in its second report on the issue in a month, which was released simultaneously in the Ukrainian capital Kiev and in Geneva.

You know WNU The world sure has gotten real exciting pretty quick. It's the part where we could become members of the choir invisible at any moment that gives some pause.
I wonder what the rebels wil do after the ultimatum, are they gearing up for a massive offensive or vil they do gerillya warfare? Will there be a election or can they not do that, since Donbass and Lughansk dont want to vote?

I know James, many things are happening and it`s not eksactly "calm" in the world now. Wonder if it will get calmer or more tense. Hope Norway dosent get problems with Russia our country have very "weak" politicians.
We are entering a new era .... many of the old rules no longer apply. In Ukraine .... there is now a pause with elections only a week and a half away .... what happens after is anyone's guess.
I have really been wishing... Cooler and smarter heads would prevail. They are not . With the new aggressive moves by China in the east China sea and the reports on a russia/china/Iran assault on the petro dollar.....The great war is coming , no doubt about it.
It's OK Travis .... I tend to call it the "South China Seas" when it is just "Sea"
Well how to answer all the question?
Start with WNU:
You're on to something with the new era thing. To some I'll preaching to the choir, but this does bear repeating. Regardless of region, politics, race, religion, or the inability to parallel park, humans usually devise systems to get along with each other or at least not kill each other to the point of annoyance. These systems will work for a period time until they get overloaded (for many reasons) and simply collapse, then you get new eras or sometimes dark ages. Recent history gives you late 1700's and the effective collapse of monarchy and industrialism, then the rise (middle 1800's of democracies, socialism, and my favorite the know nothings. Early 1900's the utter sweeping away of monarchy, World War I and the rise of communication.
Travis that's where I think we are pre World War I. It'll be a case of "a" great war, but not "the" great war.
Rhaegar: You guys had better start remembering how to build those old Dragon prow boats you guys used to scare the hell out everyone 1,000 yrs ago.
In summation: The way everything been working for the last 100+ yrs isn't cutting it anymore, there will be big changes and a lot of shooting. Now if I can just get off this soapbox without hurting anything important for golf.
WAR, n. A by-product of the arts of peace. The most menacing political condition is a period of international amity. The student of history who has not been taught to expect the unexpected may justly boast himself inaccessible to the light. "In time of peace prepare for war" has a deeper meaning than is commonly discerned; it means, not merely that all things earthly have an end — that change is the one immutable and eternal law — but that the soil of peace is thickly sown with the seeds of war and singularly suited to their germination and growth. It was when Kubla Khan had decreed his "stately pleasure dome" — when, that is to say, there were peace and fat feasting in Xanadu — that he
heard from afar
Ancestral voices prophesying war.
One of the greatest of poets, Coleridge was one of the wisest of men, and it was not for nothing that he read us this parable. Let us have a little less of "hands across the sea," and a little more of that elemental distrust that is the security of nations. War loves to come like a thief in the night; professions of eternal amity provide the night.
James:
Wish we could do that or pernhaps get Nukes;) But that is never going to happen. One of the problems with Norway is that the politicans are trying to keep every mighty country happy. For exsample for two weeks ago when Dalai Lama the 14th came on visit, our prime minister and forign minister diden`t want to meet him they are afraid to piss of the Chinese. Norway and China is not so very good friends one nobel peach price to a Chinese dissident and they reffuse to buy salmon from us for 4 years, heres a saying from me on Chinese goverment: Drop a fart and the Chinaman kill you;)
Wonder who is the next to get the nobels peach price, they have nominated Putin so we will see.
*with the word chinaman I mean The Chinese Goverment not the Chinese people. I wrote this so there are no misunderstanding.
Rhaegar,
One of you guy's biggest problem is your nearness to the GUIK gap. So you'll always be of interest to maritime powers especially Russia.
"U.N. Cites Rising Human Rights Violations in Ukraine" Name one country in the region with a clean bill, especially in times of distress. There is bad blood in the region from the ww2 era and it found a way to explode. So much for the experiment of a peaceful transition of power from pro Russian to pro US-EU hands. But as the saying goes "you brake it ,you pay it".
