Israel’s Aggressive Spying In The U.S. Mostly Hushed Up -- Newsweek

When White House national security advisor Susan Rice’s security detail cleared her Jerusalem hotel suite for bugs and intruders Tuesday night, they might’ve had in mind a surprise visitor to Vice President Al Gore’s room 16 years ago this week: a spy in an air duct.

According to a senior former U.S. intelligence operative, a Secret Service agent who was enjoying a moment of solitude in Gore’s bathroom before the Veep arrived heard a metallic scraping sound. “The Secret Service had secured [Gore’s] room in advance and they all left except for one agent, who decided to take a long, slow time on the pot,” the operative recalled for Newsweek. “So the room was all quiet, he was just meditating on his toes, and he hears a noise in the vent. And he sees the vent clips being moved from the inside. And then he sees a guy starting to exit the vent into the room.”

Did the agent scramble for his gun? No, the former operative said with a chuckle. “He kind of coughed and the guy went back into the vents.”

Move along folks, this is not a news story…
This spying on both sides has been going on for longer than I have been on this planet – it is reciprocal.

For years we have seen the flow of the story going the other way, a quick search of the mighty Google comes up with troves of articles:

The reason for this story I believe comes from the following campaign:

Clearly no nation spies on so many countries as the U.S....however, though I support Israel, one of the claims is that they spying is on commercial sites...does the U.S. do this to nations? I do not know.

Unless there is a whistle blower aka an Israeli 'Snowden' none of us will ever know.. Ever...

By nature of industry everything they do is of a secretive nature.
Everything we read is always going to be speculation/opinions lacking in cold hard facts.

I wouldn't be surprised if the US is spying on allies for Trade/Industrial secrets as well - like all countries will be doing, this wouldn't be unique to the aforementioned countries.

Why, because every sovereign state will be trying to be one step ahead of their competitors including allies in all fields.

Predominately this will have a military dimension, however, if there is an emerging technology from a commercial aspect that could benefit its own arms industry then why would a spying agency not draw the line - it's spying, everything is fair game as long as you don't get caught. That's spying, any other position is just being naive.

As for these current allegations, it's a report for consumption for everyone outside of the Intelligence industry ie.. Government, Media and joe blogs on the internet.
It contains no cold hard proof, just alleged allegations !!

Good selection of the topic, really appreciate it

In intelligence if it can be done, it will be done. In essence an agency would be derelict in it's duty if it didn't.
Mattathais, whether it's military, industrial, commercial, governmental, even popular culture the determination of usefulness is for the analyst boys. Collection of the above is only determined by capability and tasking.

Agreed!! It's all for the taking and they all do it...

Looks like the USA is no longer a slave of Israel like it was before.

If Israel had no allies from the start then they would'v been wiped out from the map, day 1. Unfortunatly they always had a "big brother" to look after them such as the USA.

Israel is pushing its luck way too far.

Oh I don't know Salim, looks like to me they've a pretty good job on their own.

Unknown said...

But thats the thing, they'v never been "on their own".
They will always have someone to babysit them.

Unknown said...

*yawn...
Not much knowledge of History there, the nascent state of Israel was on its on from day one. Yet it stopped the combined Arab armies and has done so ever since.

As for babysitters, don't be so naive Salim, it's not like Arab/Muslim countries don't have their own babysitters like Russia and China it's just they have done nothing for themselves whereas Israel has thrived...

Am Yisrael Chai...
עם ישראל חי

I didnt say arab/muslim countries dont hav a "babysitter". Get your facts right.
Whats the time zone in Israel because it looks like this is way too early for you.
Please go bore someone else

I wish peace between our 2 nations, Israel and Palestine (well i was born in the UK but still.....

Ahhh Salim, it's your hypocrisy and ignorance that makes us all laugh.
Your right, you never did say Arab/Muslim countries have babysitters but if they can have them why can't Israel hey?
It's called blocs.

You never do any fact checking before spewing your verbal diarrhoea via your keyboard do you?
It was 7pm Friday evening in Israel when you posted but I never said I live in Israel - thought the picture of HMS Dragon as my avatar might have given you a clue to my location.

Thank you also for that glorious tidbit of knowledge above - let me get this straight, you attack Western liberties and freedoms, you champion Communist countries and despot dictators yet you enjoy those very same liberties and freedoms that those countries fight for (ie the UK) which allows you to spew your poison here on this site.
Bwahahahahahah!!!!!!...
Ah the irony....

Right, the Sabbath is coming in and I will not be posting until it ends.
Shabbat Shalom to everyone (even to you too Salim)..

You like to think u know everything dont you kid?
The facts you research about are nothing but completely fabricated lies.
And just because i was born in te UK it doesnt mean i "enjoy" all its liberities, in fact, i want some limitations and laws (i.e. Executions for murdering).

You always misundertand me which always lead you to think im a hyporcrite. Its my fault though for not making myself clear all the time.

Now run along kid.....
