Islamist Fighters Reportedly Attempting To Encircle Baghdad -- McClatchy News
IRBIL, Iraq — Iraq’s dire situation has gone from bad dream to nightmare in two weeks of fighting that have seen Sunni Muslim gunmen assert control over a growing area, including, Kurdish officials said Tuesday, at least two towns that lie on a crucial supply route linking Baghdad, the capital, with the mostly Shiite Muslim south.
The fall of towns in an area that American troops knew as the “triangle of death” because of its propensity for violence provided an ominous signal, the Kurdish officials said, that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and its Sunni allies are working to encircle Baghdad.
“The picture is no longer scary,” said Shafin Dizayee, the spokesman for the autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government in Irbil. “It has become close to a nightmare scenario, where we see Daash expanding and taking control of its borders.” “Daash” is the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

My Comment: If these reports are true .... it appears that Iraq's Sunni militants have made the decision to not storm Baghdad but to encircle it and to cut-off all supply lines. Since much of the surrounding area around Baghdad is Sunni dominated .... they have a real chance to accomplish this goal. With Baghdad surrounded and under siege .... one can only imagine the fear and chaos that will erupt for it's 7 million residents .... especially if all water/food/electricity/fuel supplies become disrupted during the heat of the summer months.

I imagine such a scenario could lead to direct Iranian intervention to save the Shiite population of Baghdad.
That is exactly what we want .Bog down and kill Iranians in Iraq. I will ask this question again....what U.S interest had they attacked yet?I still see 0 .Have we hit them yet? Maybe... but that attack yesterday was more than likely Syrian planes. All of American/Saudi enemies in the middle are bat shit scarred and finally on the defensive. This includes that slime Volva that is propping up Assad and Iran. The CIA is boss and no matter how bad people think the economy is, or how weak they think Obama is they will continue to be. Once again I will eat my words and say I am wrong the moment we start hitting Isis or they start hitting the green zone.

Baghdad will be cut off till Maliki steps down. We will cut a deal with the "sunni tribesman" from Iraq. We will then install a sunni/Saudi friendly govt (like we should have in'04). Isis will be denounced by the tribesmen and disperse back to Syria. Shortly after this they will be headed to Iran . Wait and see
