A CBC Crew Witnesses The Quickly Changing Front Lines In The Ukraine Civil War

Ukraine Crisis: On The Front Lines With A Rebel Dog -- CBC

CBC's Susan Ormiston reports from near the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 disaster site

The front lines in eastern Ukraine changed significantly today. We saw it happen.

Suddenly, rounding a corner, we saw two cars of rebel fighters. They jumped out, dived in the ditches and dropped to their bellies near a train track.

They waved us on urgently down the road. Something was brewing.

At the next intersection, there were more rebels. We were told Ukrainian tanks were up ahead. They said, "Go if you like, but you might get caught between the Ukrainian army and us." Not a good idea.

My Comment: Many of these rebels are either melting into the forests and/or removing their uniforms and putting on civies. This civil war is not going to end in the clear-cut way that many in Kiev and in the West are hoping for.

1.
How long will a siege of Donetsk take?
2.
The pro-Russians are getting increased support by Russia can they try to reclaim teretories or will they try to defend the mayor cities?
3.
The pro-Russians have almost lost Luhansk will the Ukrainian army take the city?
4.
Can the Kiev governments ATO colaps in August since they dont have enauth money to pay the soldiers and they need ca 800 milion dollars to keep the ATO going, can it colapse? What are your friends telling you?
5.
Are the Kiev forces retaking so mutch teretories as they are saying there are or are they lying?
6.
Can the Kiev forces still keep the momentum with retaking cities or will it stop since the ATO will have long time problems?
7.
Any news about some 3 grade EU sancitons on Russia targeting banks and other economic sectors? If that happens what will the Russian response be?
8.
And my last question can this crisis escalate further or will it began to descalate? Can this lead to a regional war or somthing like that or will it not?

1)A week or two .... or longer.
2)I think they are now looking at guerrilla warfare with political talks on the sidelines.
3) Luhansk is a tricky place .... and even if they do capture it .... it will be difficult to keep because the entire population is hostile towards to you.
4) I will be posting a story on Ukraine's economy later. This is Kiev's biggest weakness. They are broke and the West is reluctant to send monies to Ukraine knowing that it will only be used for funding the militarily.
5) They take some territory ... they move on .... the rebels come back. This is going to be the number one problem for Kiev .... they do not have enough boots on the ground.
6) Again .... taking the cities is one thing ... keeping it is another.
7) There will be more sacntions, but Russia will not respond.
8) This conflict has all the makings of a long term and low grade conflict.
