Germany Expels The CIA Station Chief In Berlin

Germany Asks Top US Spy In Berlin To Leave Country Amid Undercover Agent Investigation -- Deutsche Welle

The German government has advised that it will expel the top US spy in Germany. The move comes in response to the discovery that two US agents were working under cover in Germany's secret intelligence agency.

The head of the German parliamentary board overseeing the secret services, Clemens Binninger, announced on Thursday that the head of the CIA's Germany station would be asked to leave the country.

The decision to expel the US Embassy's CIA representative is designed to demonstrate Germany's anger at the discovery of two US spies in Germany's foreign intelligence service, the BND.

I plead ignorance, because I am. I am on the outside looking in or trying to.

The most charitable description I have seen of U.S. spying on the Germans is that the Germans are not doing a very good job vis-a-vis terrorism as shown by the Hamburg cell of 911 hijackers.

The second most charitable explanation is is that everyone spies on everyone if they can.

Did the Obama administration order the CIA to do something it normally would not do?

And if so for what reason?

Yup .... The Hamburg Cell and the failure of German intelligence on what they were plotting has been a sore point in U.S. - German intelligence for the past decade. I mentioned it here yesterday .... http://warnewsupdates.blogspot.ca/2014/07/germany-unearths-second-us-spy-suspect.html

But there is .... correction .... there was an understanding between Germany and the U.S. to not spy on their respective governments .... and that is the sore point in this dispute .... the second German spy was focused on what the German government was doing.
