Iraq Edges Towards Collapse Into Rival Statelets -- Irish Times

Government reliance on Shia militia to fight rebels has deepened sectarian mistrust

Salman Khaled has already lived through Baghdad’s sectarian disintegration; with Iraq now splintering into Shia, Sunni Arab and Kurdish regions, he says the survival of the country is at stake this time.

“Things are really tense and it could get worse,” said the 23- year-old Sunni Muslim student. “If the politicians continue as they are doing now we are on the path to separation.”

When Khaled’s father was shot dead by Shia gunmen at the height of Baghdad’s religious bloodshed seven years ago, his family took shelter in a Sunni neighbourhood of the capital.

My Comment: The sectarian slaughter in Iraq shows no sign of letting up, and if Iraq's politicians continue with the current course of events .... the splitting of Iraq into three separate entities is all but guaranteed.
