Iraq Tells U.N. ‘Terrorists’ Seized Former Chemical Arms Depot -- Daily Star/Agencies
UNITED NATIONS / BAGHDAD: Iraq’s government has lost control of a former chemical weapons facility to “armed terrorist groups” and is unable to fulfill its international obligations to destroy toxins kept there, the country’s U.N. envoy informed the United Nations.
The announcement came as Iraq’s parliament moved up to early next week its next session devoted to forming a new government as embattled Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki seeks a new term in the face of strong opposition from across the political spectrum.
In a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, made public on Tuesday, Ambassador Mohammad Ali Alhakim said the Muthanna facility north of Baghdad was seized on June 11. He said remnants of a former chemical weapons program are kept in two bunkers there.

My Comment: I reported on this story last month .... ISIS Militants May Now Have Weapons Of Mass Destruction After Storming And Seizing A Saddam-Era Chemical Weapons Complex In Iraq. Some are saying that we should not be worried .... others are saying that we should. What's my take .... when it comes to WMDs, I think it is prudent to always assume the worse.

Look, this facility was gone over with SEVERAL fine tooth combs by US forces in an effort to justify the US-led invasion of Iraq. Nothing was found except a few old shells with some old sarin in them. Some of it even leaked out of the shells, making a few Soldiers sick, but not killing anyone.
The only cause for concern in this story is that that ISIS is taking Iraqi territory and perhaps looking for chemical weapons.
Toxic industrial chemicals (such as Chlorine or Hydrofluoric Acid are MUCH more dangerous and accessible, especially at large industrial sites like the oil refinery they captured a couple of weeks ago. THOSE things are cause for concern but have little tactical value.
Love your site, by the way...
My brother .... who has a Phd. in Chemistry .... told me the same thing last night Trevor
