Israel Steps Up Offensive with Deadly Gaza Bombings -- New York Times

JERUSALEM — Israel began an intensive aerial bombardment in Gaza early Tuesday, hitting more than 50 targets, including at least four homes that the military said belonged to militants. Palestinian officials and witnesses in Gaza said that at least 11 people had been killed, including seven people in a three-story house obliterated by an Israeli rocket that went through the roof.

It was the deadliest day so far in the latest resurgence of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, fed partly by the raw rage over the kidnapping and killing of three Israeli teenagers in the occupied West Bank last month and what appeared to be the grisly revenge kidnapping and killing of a Palestinian teenager from East Jerusalem last week.

The aerial barrage followed the firing of about 80 rockets out of Gaza on Monday that reached deep into southern Israel. Military officials said additional reservists were being called up in anticipation of a possible ground assault.

Re: Israel - Iron Dome has just downed a rocket over Tel Aviv, this is a significant escalation on the part of Hamas in its indiscriminate launching of Rockets at the civilian population.
Expect major retaliation tonight.

As it stands, close friends and their young family in Kibbutz Negba, less than 20km from Gaza and where I stay often with my wife are currently in the bomb shelters.
They have been told it is unsafe to leave their Kibbutz by the IDF.

Another friend on a Kibbutz near Beersheba have them open ready for use - he is very chilled spending most of the time at the pub on the Kibbutz and not paying much attention to the Code Red siren.

My family that live in Tel Aviv are a little more nonchalant about it all, my Aunty told me today that the bomb shelters around the city have been opened. I think this attitude will now change with Tel Aviv being targeted.

One of my younger cousins has had the call up today. Unsure where he will be going as some troops already from the Northern front are being rotated down South with some freshly called up troops going to the North or so I am told.

The general vibe from everyone I speak with so far is pretty calm, however, their determination that this is it, no more ceasefires, Hamas infrastructure and capacity to launch rockets must be destroyed is rock solid.

They all agree that retaking the strip permanently is the wrong answer but they do agree that ground forces need to go in - this is a must.

With the order for up to 40,000 called up, it seems that this is what is going to happen very soon...

OMG!!!!
What is the world coming to?

Cheers James :)
Gonna need it, the tempo has just picked up a huge notch or five with reports of Haifa targeted with a new rocket type: R-160.
Nothing on google about an R-160 Rocket except this Hamas announcement across multiple news sources. If true then I can't see the IDF holding back this time..

That's right WNU, the Clark James is the good looking smart one. Give me too much trouble and I'll start telling the world you use stolen Yakov Smirnoff jokes at wine conventions AND you have a secret stash of "wine in a box" at home! Sorry Mattathias, but you got to keep an eye on these Russians.

"Wine in a Box"!!!!! .... those are fighting words. We Russians have started wars for far less. Grrrr....
