Taliban Destroy Oil Tanker Lorries In Afghanistan -- The Guardian
Militants set fore to around 200 trucks carrying fuel for Nato forces in country, say officials
Taliban insurgents have set fire to about 200 oil tanker lorries supplying fuel for Nato forces in an attack just outside Kabul, police said.
Television footage showed black smoke billowing above the site of the attack, with the charred wreckage of dozens of trucks scattered around a vast parking space.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the vehciles carried fuel intended for US-led forces.
It was unclear how the fire was started. Some Afghan media reported that insurgents had fired rockets at the tankers late on Friday. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

My Comment: Another major victory for the Taliban. I could be wrong, but for the past few months the Taliban have been targeting Afghanistan's infrastructure .... it looks like they have someone new who is coordinating their operations.

"it looks like they have someone new who is coordinating their operations."
They have hit fuel trucks in convoys before.
They were bound to hit bridges, power pylons, fuel trucks, ammo dumps. They have done so in the past. Unless they forget their own operational history / have no organizational memory, they were bound to do it again.
Still I don't doubt they have someone new. I would like to see the other news stories you have read that led you to this conclusion so i can learn exactly how you came to surmise this.
I have seen where a commander has come to a unit and you do not know exactly what they do, but things change. The operational tempo changes, things get better or worse.
I don't doubt they have someone new as you say.
I have been following the operational reports from Afghanistan since day one. Nothing specific .... it is just that in the past two months the Taliban are getting better at targeting NATO - Afghan targets. They have hit fuel convoys many times before .... but not at this scale. They have hit Kabul airport .... but not so precisely. They rarely let the media tag alone when they conduct raids .... now .... there have been a number of reports from reporters embedded with the Taliban. Something has changed .... and I can't pinpoint it .... just a gut feeling.
It's probably someone on the inside who's turned in an attempt to save his own or family's hide. It should be no surprise, there's more than likely a lot of them who've jumped the fence or are close to it. If you had to stay there wouldn't you?
The Afghans did not let
up on the Soviets as they
pulled out, nor will they
let up on us.

Side of the Mountain recounts
from the Afghan side what
happened.

Oldfatslow you are right. In the last 6 months of the Soviet-Afghan war the same thing was happening. The Afghans were getting more bold, their attacks were more precise, and alliances were shifting. My uncle who was a senior officer who did three tours in Afghanistan told me that the closing months were hell. They were slaughtering Afghans left and right .... but even more were coming in to replace them. There was no let up in the war .... it was in fact escalating.
"Something has changed .... and I can't pinpoint it .... just a gut feeling."
Unless you are cutout ... I doubt it ... and you are not a bureaucrat and you have been paying attention for time,
I trust your gut instinct.
LOL .... a cutout .... man-o-man .... you have no idea Aizino on how many people I know who do not see me any where near that. As to being a bureaucrat .... my family and the old Soviet foreign office tried that with me in the 1980s .... I was an abysmal failure because my predictions and analysis was always spot on .... especially in reference to U.S. politics. That is why I was then sent to China ?!?!?! .... where I caused even more problems. I still remember the drinking .... groan .... the drinking. But the friends that I got to know in China then are still my good friends today. Amazing how life turns out.
In regards to Afghanistan .... I do not feel good about that place at all. My latest post is here http://warnewsupdates.blogspot.ca/2014/07/the-taliban-are-taking-back-their.html
We're getting closer and closer to having to fight our way out.
