Donetsk Shelled As Ukraine Government Continues Offensive -- Wall Street Journal

At Least One Killed as Mortars Reach Heart of City

DONETSK, Ukraine—He was one of the people who kept Donetsk clean, its parks tended and flower-beds watered, even as encroaching war upended the city's everyday life.

At midday Tuesday, a municipal groundskeeper and his wife were doing their usual chores when at least two mortars landed just feet away from him, according to witnesses. He died instantly, his severed arm lying on the lawn behind a 10-story apartment building next door to a local militia station for the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic. His wife survived.

It was the first time war had hit the regional capital's center with such force, and dazed neighbors watched in horror as undertakers put the groundskeeper's body parts into plastic bags.
