Hamas Video 'Shows-Off' Their Ghoul Sniper Rifle In Action (And With A '2km Range')

Hamas Militant Video Shows Ghoul Sniper With '2km Range' -- The Telegraph

A video released by Hamas, which cannot be independently verified, shows a huge sniper which militants claim was made in Gaza

Hamas' armed wing has released footage of a home grown sniper rifle, nicknamed Ghoul, which it is using to target Israeli soldiers.

The footage, which cannot be independently verified, shows what Hamas claims is a 14.5mm caliber sniper rifle, with 2 km (1.2 mile) range. The average range of a typical sniper rifle is just under 900 yards (800 metres).

A militant posing next to the weapon shows the the scale of the sniper rifle, which Hamas claims to have manufactured in Gaza.

My Comment: Another worry for the people who live on the Israeli side of the border.

Any weapons experts who read this site able to offer an opinion on how accurate a self made Sniper rifle could be?

Especially when talking about the huge distances this is supposedly able to hit?

What is the likelihood of obtaining precision machinery in order to build this type of equipment?

2km is far Mattathias .... really far. I am not an expert on sniper rifles .... but I do know that to hit a target 1km away is extremely difficult .... and it could be done using only the best in precision weaponry. A sniper rifle "home made" .... hitting a target 2km away .... I am very skeptical. This is more of a "terror weapon" .... to put fear in those who are 2km from the Gaza border.

For your info Mattathias .... the longest kill recorded is over 3,000 yards. http://warnewsupdates.blogspot.ca/2013/01/can-sniper-hit-target-3080-yards-with_5.html

My section on snipers and sniper rifles is here http://warnewsupdates.blogspot.ca/search/label/sniper

As some of my friends in the "reach out and touch someone" community would point out, the sniper is always more important than the rifle.

This appears to be nothing more than a vintage ww2 Soviet anti-tank rifle.

That was my thoughts as well Mr WNU. Thanks for the heads up on the search, point taken :)
I knew the longest shot was quite a distance and the skill involved, so what is it they have?

Is it an Iran style mock up prototype for the media or do they have a fledgling light arms industry?

I've seen some domestically produced 'spray n pray' sub machine guns from Judea & Samaria (West Bank) and they were amateur at best.

Question is, can it accurately target at a distance?
I think the distance claim will fall short (no pun intended)....
