Obama: No Need Yet For More U.S. Military Aid To Ukraine -- Reuters
(Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama said on Wednesday Ukraine did not need additional military assistance to help fight insurgents in the eastern part of the country but a Russian invasion would raise "a different set of questions."
Obama's comments came after NATO said on Wednesday Russia had massed some 20,000 troops on Ukraine's border and could use the pretext of a humanitarian mission to invade.
At a news conference at the conclusion of a U.S.-Africa summit in Washington, Obama was asked whether the United States would reconsider sending lethal aid to Ukraine.

My Comment: President Obama is warning Russia to not interfere in Ukraine .... and that if they did .... all options would then be on the table. A year ago this type of talk was unthinkable .... today .... it has become standard.

I thought I would be able to leave this type of thinking in the past, but if US/NATO forces engage the Russians at anything above Brigade level, or if the US Government raises its Continuity of Government Condition to level 2, I'm getting the hell out of dodge. I live 5 miles from the Pentagon...
Trevor. I use to live three blocks from the Kremlin during the height of the Cold War. I know what you are talking about.
I don't read this as Obama saying direct intervention by US is on the table. But military aid might be. Am I being too optimistic? I just cannot believe the West will go to war over Ukraine.
Black Knight, I do not believe for one second that the U.S./NATO would go to war over Ukraine. There is a reason why neither Georgia nor Ukraine are NATO members, we won't (under normal circumstances) go to war to support them.
HOWEVER, although I think the possibility for conflict between the US and Russia is minimal, it has increased over the last year. Putin is reverting back to the traditional Russian/Soviet way of thinking about the world, and the West doesn't see it yet.
And things have a way of spirialing out of control. You never know what could happen.
The big fear in Russia right now is war .... not economic sanctions. War is also on the top of the list for most Europeans. In the U.S. .... not even as a blip in the polls.
NATO will not go to war to defend Ukraine .... but it is also true that when the dogs of war are released .... no one knows where it may end up in the end.
