U.S. Maj. Gen. Harold Greene Is Buried With Full Honors At Arlington

Goodbye Dad: Heartbroken Family Of Highest Ranking Soldier Killed By 'Insider' In Afghanistan Ambush Kiss His Casket As He Is Buried With Full Honors At Arlington -- Daily Mail

* A service featuring full military honors was held for Maj. Gen. Harold J. Greene at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday
* Major Greene was shot by an Afghan military policeman in an ambush on two weeks ago
* He was the highest-ranking Army officer to die in Afghanistan
* His killer was hiding in a bathroom waiting for Greene and 20 other military personnel

The highest-ranking U.S. military officer killed in combat since the Vietnam War was buried with full honors Thursday at Arlington National Cemetery in a ceremony attended by his family and platoons of fellow warriors.

Maj. Gen. Harold J. Greene was killed Aug. 5 when a gunman believed to be an Afghan soldier opened fire at a military academy near Kabul.

During the ceremony, Greene's adult son tightly clasped the hands of his mother and sister as soldiers folded the flag that had draped his father's casket. While the U.S. Army Band played 'America the Beautiful,' Army First Lt. Matthew Greene handed a tissue to his mother, who dabbed at her eyes.

The 55-year-old two-star general went to Afghanistan in January. It was his first deployment to a war zone.

My Comment: I know that he is on vacation .... but considering the fact that U.S. Maj. Gen. Harold Greene is the highest ranking officer in the U.S. military to be killed in a war zone since the Vietnam war .... President Obama as Commander in Chief should have attended this funeral.

Look at the faces in the last photo of the Daily Mail piece, his absence is noted and won't be forgotten.

Who else was not there that should have been?

No one showed up. Definitely not from the civilian/political side of the military.

I looked at the crowd. I did not see public figure, who I knew. Late last night I was going to ask if the SecDEf was there. I had a brain freeze. Yes the sec def is Hagel and now that WNU said Hagel, I realize my lapse of memory. Looking at the Daily Mail pictures I did see him in the crowd.

I am not sure it would have been a good thing for Petraeus to go. There is his infidelity and people are wondering if another shoe is going to drop. Barring that we wonder if he would be brought back on active duty to face charges of adultery and conduct unbecoming. Having not prosecuted him for 2 or 3 years to do so now would be purely political IMO. S having Petraeus at the funeral would be fodder for the papparazzi in the BIG NEWS (MSM) & be a distraction. the funeral should be about the general and his family not a circus.

Biden could have gone without being a distraction so long they gave him a script and he did not go off it. IMO, but I won't defend it to hard in this case.

You are correct Aizino Smith. Sec. Def. Hagel attended ... but he chose to remain on the sidelines at the ceremony and was very low key.

Perhaps, but then again so should have all the rest of the living presidents. You didn't see either of the Bush presidents there, or Clinton, or Carter...

Defense Secretary Hagal WAS there.

Todd'
There is a difference between former Presidents and the one who is serving as Commander in Chief. An officer of rank has died under his current command, he should attend.

Thank you Todd for your comments. I did mention in the comments section that SecDef Hagel did attend.
