EU, U.S. Impose New Economic Sanctions On Russia Over Ukraine -- Globe and Mail/Reuters
The European Union and United States enacted a new round of sanctions against Russia on Friday over its role in Ukraine, including restrictions on financing for some Russian state-owned companies and asset freezes on leading Russian politicians.
The EU and the U.S. government have been stepping up pressure on Moscow after its annexation of Crimea in March and what the West sees as an effort since then to further destabilise Ukraine by backing pro-Russian separatists in the east with troops and arms. The EU has held out an olive branch, however, by saying it could lift some or even all of the sanctions within weeks - if Moscow abides by a fragile truce and respects a peace plan.

Well now, I guess the West has shown Putin the "what for" now. I must say the timing is exquisite!
Just some inside baseball James. Some of my friends in Moscow believe that this will all be blown over by Christmas. If not .... so be it.
As to what is my opinion .... I am worried (then again .... I always worry). :)
Somewhere in Moscow, someone's humming "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas".
In Washington and Europe the leadership is composed of some very frightened people now. The great ship of state they dreamed to sail off into utopia has hit too many icebergs and is in imminent danger of sliding under the sea. They don't know how to get off and they have a Captain who doesn't know or care about how to save the ship, so he keeps it on his course at speed for it's the only thing he knows to do.
