Ex-CIA Director Predicts 5,000 US Personnel On Ground By December -- The Hill
Former CIA Director Gen. Michael Hayden on Sunday said he predicts there could be nearly 5,000 U.S. personnel on the ground overseas by the end of the year to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
“In terms of intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, logistics, advice, command and control assistance, tactical air control parties, look I’m betting we’re up close 5,000 by the end of the year,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”
Hayden explained he doesn’t think they will be “combat maneuver units,” but predicted U.S. special operations forces could wind up on the ground in Syria.

Update: Ex-CIA director predicts US to have 5,000 ground troops in Iraq by December -- American Thinker
My Comment: 5,000 U.S. military personnel on the ground in Iraq (and maybe Syria) by December .... this is something that will be very difficult for someone like President Obama to accept. He has spent the first 6 years of being U.S. President trying everything in his power to get out of the region (and boasting about it) .... by going back in .... with such a military footprint .... will be a concession on his part that his policy has failed. But will he still do it? My prediction is that as the fight against the Islamic State intensifies .... we will probably end up seeing thousands of U.S. forces in Iraq .... and some special ops in Syria .... and all within the next few months. President Obama may not want U.S. forces in the region fighting a war, but war is certainly interested in having such a sequence of events play out.
