Bill Clinton: U.S. Has Proven It Can't Win An Iraq Land War -- CNN

(CNN) -- Former President Bill Clinton voiced support for the U.S. strategy to defeat ISIS and said only the Iraqi people can win a land war in Iraq.

Speaking Thursday night on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," Clinton said the United States has proven it can't win an Iraq war with boots on the ground, but that moderate Sunni tribal leaders working with an inclusive Iraqi government can.

"We can't win a land war in Iraq, but they can and we can help them," Clinton said.

Clinton said he thinks President Barack Obama's strategy to combat ISIS, or the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, "has a chance to succeed."

My Comment: Yes .... the Iraqi people need to be the ones who must lead the fight. But I disagree with his comment that the U.S. is not capable of winning an Iraq land war .... the problem has never been America or the U.S. military .... the problem has always been in Washington and from the politicians who run the place .... Bill Clinton included.

On the American side Bill Clinton is directly and solely responsible for the events portrayed in the movie BlackHawk Down.

The military requested tanks. they were denied. Les Aspin to the fall for it. Tanks would have looked too military.

We were fighting against a war lord and clan that back him that were using UN & NGO food as a weapon against other clans to obtain suzerainty

The Habr Gidr clan were willing to use food as weapon and were willing to starve to death their co-religionists and people of the same ethnicity.

"What are you prepared to do?" - Jim Malone "Untouchables (1987 film)

Bill Clinton was not prepared to do much. He was not prepared to have tanks as a back up. But it was okay for Pakistan to have tanks (M48s) in Mogadishu.

Being a politician, lawyer, Rhodes scholar and philanderer does not give you military acumen.
